Knowing your way around public domain sources can lead to raw material that’s rich and deeply researched—and it can also make low-cost illustrated books possible. For Mythology, I used public domain text as well as public domain artwork from sites like the Getty Museum and the National Archives to create a beautiful gift book that was still cost-effective for print run below 5,000.
